The Australian Youth Representative to the United Nations is a volunteer position within UN Youth Australia, tasked with representing young people within Australia in domestic and international spheres. It is annually appointed in partnership with the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade.

The Role in Brief

  • Type: Volunteer, Non-remunerated
  • Location: Australia-wide, remote*
  • Load: 25 hours/week*
  • Tenure: 12 months – Dec 2026 start (unless negotiated otherwise)

Key Aspects

  • Leading the Listening Tour, an annual face-to-face consultation of young people in Australia.
  • Delivering an address at the 3rd Committee (Social Development) of the General Assembly.
  • Advocating for youth-friendly policy through conversations with members of the Australian community in the political, non-profit and corporate sectors.
  • Collating findings and work in a Youth Representative Report, to be distributed in October.
