Hi, I'm Janice Rodrigues!
I am the 2026 Australian Youth Representative to the United Nations.
Follow me on my journey around Australia to hear directly from young people, share their stories and experiences, and amplify their voices where decisions are made in national and international conversations.
Representing young people at the United Nations
The Australian Youth Representative Program elevates the experiences of young people across Australia by creating spaces for them to explore, discover, and understand the issues most important to them and their communities.

Meet the Youth Rep

Every day, young people's experiences, opinions and knowledge are misrepresented within our global society
United Nations
Minimal design, an aesthetic marvel, celebrates the art of simplicity and elegance. It is a design philosophy that strips away the extraneous, leaving behind only the essential elements to create a visual language that speaks volumes with subtlety.
Governments
The beauty of minimal design lies in its ability to convey a sense of tranquility and sophistication through understated elements.
Community
Within the realm of minimal design, every element serves a purpose, and every detail is meticulously curated.
27 Years of the Youth Representaive to the UN
Since 1999, the Australian Youth Representative to the United Nations embarks annually on a Listening Tour, Australia’s largest face-to-face consultation of young people aged 12 to 25.
Appointed annually by UN Youth Australia and the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade, the Youth Representative seeks to discover the issues most important to young people in Australia.
The Listening Tour
As the Youth Representative travels across the country, they will undertake Listening Tour Consultations to bring together young people from across Australia’s diverse and varied communities to share their visions, challenges, and perspectives on current domestic and international issues and opportunities.
The Youth Representative leads these consultations as interactive, activity-based discussions to identify how local and global issues affect young people in their unique contexts and environments.

Janice Rodrigues
2026 Australian Youth Representative to the United Nations
Janice (she/her) is Australia’s 2026 Youth Representative to the United Nations. As a youth worker, community organiser, and racial and gender justice advocate from New South Wales, she brings extensive experience in advocating alongside communities. Drawing on her lived experience as a young woman from South West Sydney, Janice further brings a deep understanding of how place, culture, and access shape opportunity, and a commitment to centring the voices of those most often excluded from power and policy conversations.
Janice currently works as a Youth Program Coordinator at the Western Sydney Migrant Resource Centre, supporting newly arrived refugee and migrant young people in their transition to life in Australia through community-led and culturally responsive programs. She brings governance experience through her role as an Advisory Board Member for Multicultural NSW, where she also co-chairs the Multicultural Youth Network, and sits on the Management Committee of CuriousWorks, a Western Sydney-based arts organisation dedicated to amplifying local voices and storytelling.
She has a strong background in racial and gender justice advocacy, having served as the NSW State Leader for Democracy in Colour, worked as a Youth Activist and facilitator with Plan International Australia, and contributed to international youth governance through Plan International’s Global Youth Reference Group. Janice has also represented Western Sydney on the Greater Cities Commission Youth Advisory Panel, co-leading work that centred the voices of First Nations young people in urban planning processes.
Janice is an experienced public speaker and media contributor, formally trained through the Economic Media Centre, and has appeared on ABC speaking on youth participation, representation, and social justice. She holds a Bachelor of Politics and International Relations from the University of Sydney.
As Youth Representative, Janice is committed to working directly with young people to co-create practical and intersectional solutions. She believes meaningful change happens when everyone has a seat at the table and young people are treated as leaders, collaborators, and innovators. Her goal is to turn ideas into action, ensuring youth perspectives shape policy, community programs, and Australia’s engagement on the global stage, because solutions are strongest when they come from those who live them.

Sharing Australia's Youth Experiences at the United Nations
Australia’s youth experiences and perspectives shared during the Listening Tour are analysed and reported on to the Third Committee of the United Nations General Assembly, the Australian Government, and the Australian and International Community.
Each September, the Youth Representative delivers an address to the Third Committee as a representative of Australia. They join the Australian Mission to the United Nations (New York Office) to be the youth voice and advisor in debates, negotiations, and strategy work around topical global issues, particularly those impacting young people.
The 2025 Youth Representative Report captured the voices of young people across Australia and continues to inform ongoing advocacy and engagement. At the end of 2026, the 2026 Youth Represenative Report will be released, reflecting the voices, experiences, and priorities shared by young people across Australia throughout the coming year.
