Matthew Friedman

The Board of UN Youth Australia · Chair of the Welfare Committee

Matt’s first engagement with UN Youth was as the honourable delegate for Russian in a mock-UN debate at his school, equipped with a (water-filled) Smirnoff bottle and absolutely no idea. Since then UN Youth has taken him to 25 cities, towns and villages across 12 countries, and to the realisation that there’s probably more to diplomacy than racist stereotyping and terrible Russian accents. He has previously served on NSW and National Executives.

Outside of UN Youth, Matt has launched a sex and relationships educational project, 2 Birds 1 Bee, through which he engages young people, their parents, and schools in sometimes awkward but always necessary conversations.  He is also a Director of Square One Skills, a charity that teaches life skills to those who don’t have the usual support networks. Sometimes he remembers that he’s studying a double bachelor degree in Arts and Economics.

Rates:

performance poetry, puns, and surprisingly warm interactions with strangers.

Hates:

built-in obsolescence, people being shamed for their passions, and early mornings
