Travelling through Timor-Leste on Pacific Project, a nation that was so recently ravaged by conflict, we were amazed by the collective will to move forward.
Timor Leste Project 2019 (formerly known as the Pacific Project) is an exciting opportunity for 12 young leaders from around Australia to embark on a two-week tour of East Timor exploring the complex realities of development in one of our closest neighbours.
Timor Leste Project is a year-long initiative open to students from around Australia who will be in Years 10, 11 and 12 in 2019. Timor Leste Project centres around an unforgettable 2-week tour of East Timor during July 2019, and will see you lead fundraising initiatives alongside other young Australians on your return.
As part of the Timor Leste Project, you’ll learn about sustainable development and the challenges of international aid. You’ll also spend time working with local communities and grassroots organisations, including working closely with our partner school in Maliana, Encouragement House.
What Past Delegates Thought
“An emotive, enriching and empowering experience, the Pacific Project has contributed to the way I approach everyday activities, with heightened awareness and gratitude, and has helped to establish a future direction for myself, which I hope will encompass the principle of globally sustainable development.”

“Pacific Project was a once in a lifetime experience that changed my perspective of the world around me forever. The beautiful culture and wonderful spirit in Timor was remarkable. I would recommend it to everyone who wants to get hands on experience with community projects, make new friends and have a great time doing it.”
– Daniel Hellig-Smith, Pacific Project participant, 2013
