What is State Conference?

UN Youth Tasmania’s annual State Conference brings together over 50 delegates from across the state for a weekend of leadership, diplomacy and advocacy. Join us from April 14th to 16th to take part in the global conversation about international law and its influence in the 21st century. This flagship event presents an opportunity for you to develop your skills in public speaking, negotiation and critical thinking alongside an incredible group of like-minded students.

The 2023 State Conference spans across two and a half days, giving you a whole weekend to make new friends from across the state! Delegates (students) will spend their time at State Conference meeting each other and getting to the heart of the international law interactive workshops, a speaker panel, and by tackling a simulated Interactive Problem Solving activity. The final day of State Conference is your chance to emulate a member state of the United Nations in Model UN committee debates. Get into a diplomat’s shoes for a day and do your best to pass resolutions that will benefit the global community and align with your national interests – not always an easy task.

What can I expect from State Conference 2023?

+  Interactive workshops on international law
+  An expert speaker panel and the opportunity to meet experts in the field
+  A simulated crisis Interactive Problem Solving activity
+  Model UN Debates
+  Much more!

What Our Delegates Have To Say About State Conference

Our delegates love our events, and we want to share what they have to say with everyone!

“State Conference afforded me an opportunity that I couldn’t get anywhere else – it was one of the most unique learning experiences I’ve ever had and it has given me the chance to meet and bond with some of the most incredible people, who I can now proudly call my friends” – Emma, 2019

“State Conference was one of the most incredible opportunities to participate in. Being a delegate at State Conference taught me so much about debating, international relations and real world negotiating that it helped and encouraged me to study the university degree that I’m studying in 2019” – Sophie, 2017

“Going to State Conference was one of the best choices I have ever made. I went with butterflies in my stomach and left as another person with greater knowledge and a remarkable experience” – Clara, 2019

“I was never all that confident or loud. I was that quiet kid who you’d never hear talk but all of that changed for me because of State Conference. It gave me a voice to speak about things I’m passionate about and meet with some of the most friendly, talented and encouraging people I have ever met. State Conference made me the bright, happy and confident person I am today, and I am forever grateful” – Annabelle, 2019
