Tasmanian Evatt Competition

About Evatt

Are you ready to step into the shoes of a diplomat?

Evatt is a Model-UN style diplomacy competition for students in Years 9–12. Giving young Tasmanians the work of UN Security Council representatives, Evatt provides students with a deeper understanding of world issues, and the skills they need for global citizenship. It aims to educate young people about Australia’s place in the world and empower them as active citizens by developing public speaking, negotiation, teamwork, research, and diplomatic skills.

The competition takes the form of a mock session of the UN Security Council, where teams of two students debate, amend, and vote on a prepared resolution from the perspective of their assigned nation. The students judged the most effective diplomats proceed to the next round and may compete in the State Grand Final to win a place at National Evatt. Taking on the role of an international diplomat gives students an avenue to explore the hard-and-fast world of global diplomacy and struggle together, forming complex solutions to international security conflicts.

You can find more details on the competition and how Evatt debate works on the National competition page.

How do I register?

Any two students from any school in Tasmania can register as a team. One registration fee of $10 per person covers all rounds of the competition excluding the national finals. In 2020, delegates who are a part of a team must register separately. We will provide further information on the national finals as our current circumstances continue to develop!
