About the Evatt Competition

The Evatt Competition is Australia’s largest high school debating competition, with over 2,000 students competing in rounds in every State and Territory across Australia.

The competition is open to students in years 9-12 from all over the Perth metropolitan and outer metropolitan suburbs, as well as regional areas.

The competition takes the form of a mock session of the UN Security Council. Teams of two students debate, amend, and vote on a prepared resolution from the perspective of their assigned nation. The students judged the most effective diplomats in the Preliminary Rounds will proceed to the State Final.

The State Final is held annually at Parliament House. From this pool of competitors, the most effective teams will then be sent to compete in the National Finals, hosted by a different State or Territory division in December each year.
